Chapter 13 – The New Victim
Perry’s eyes fluttered awake, and she was completely calm. This never would have happened. It had been decades, at this point, since Perry had wake up from sleep in the middle of her terrors.
This was insane. It wasn’t a bad thing, but why did it change? What caused this? It gave her an indescribable feeling, and it totally blinded her to how much good this did for Perry.
“Wha— How di—What happened to your terrors? Is this the only time you’ve woken up? Are you still dreaming?”
Bea was stuttering with shock.
“I think I’m awake,” Perry said calmly. “Then again I wouldn’t know, so who’s really to say?”
Bea collected herself and stepped closer, “So, what does this mean?” she asked.
“It means we can go back home, the nightmare is over.” Perry replied with a warm smile.
Bea was exhausted, she couldn’t drive anymore that day, so they decided to stay for a little bit. They sat down and told each other everything that happened and tried to make sense of it. Then Bea took a long deep nap
Perry was going around the house cleaning it up a little bit. She was much more confident that Ms. Marley was gone, she felt invincible. Then a cool gust of wind blew through the window in the kitchen. Perry shuddered as it passed her and made its way through the house. She went over and shut the window, although it didn’t shut immediately; it took a bit of strength to do so. The breeze traveled up to Bea as she enjoyed her nap. The breeze flew not over, but through her.
Perry was downstairs on a call with Harlan explaining what happened, and then she heard something “*KA-THUNK!* AAAH!” Bea cried in agony. Perry’s head immediately whipped around, now facing up the staircase, “Harlan, I’ll have to call you back,” she said urgently, hung up the phone, and ran up to Bea.
She flung open the door and saw Bea on the ground by a broken potted plant that looks like it’d fallen on her. Bea was writhing on the ground, eyes closed, and screaming in horror.
Perry didn’t know what to do, she rushed over to Bea asking what was happening but Bea didn’t seem to hear or even see her. “BEA!” Perry yelled as she shook her back and forth trying to wake her up. Then Bea went quiet and her eyes opened.
“Wha-what happened?” she asked.
“I-I think you had a terror.”
With that they both knew that while Perry had been saved, Ms. Marley found a new victim.
