Ready to go trick or treating while wearing costumes that cost under $20!

Over 69% of people spend a ridiculous amount of money on Halloween costumes per year. Isn’t that crazy? No one should have to waste so much money on costumes when you can just do it yourself. Then again, if you don’t want to spend time on making costumes, you can always just buy affordable ones! Many people don’t realize that there are affordable costumes out there.

An average Halloween costume is around $30-$50. That much money for an outfit that you’ll wear one day is insane. If you get an affordable Halloween costume that would probably cost around $20-$30.

Journi Easley, a 7th grader, stated that, “ When I was around 7 years old I got a Halloween costume that cost around $35 including the wig which was $15.” She also stated, “Once I made my own costume with my own supplies and it didn’t cost anything, now I try to only spend around $20.” No one should spend that much money on a Halloween costume that you’ll only wear once a year.

Mrs. Neal loves Halloween but hates to spend a fortune on the family’s costumes. Her 7 year old daughter wants to be the all popular Wednesday Addams. “The most expensive part of her outfit was the new $9 wig. We got the long sleeve black dress and grunge boots at a thrift shop.” She continued to say that her son wants to be a wizard from Harry Potter and he already had the wand, owl, and all she had to purchase was a robe for $10 off amazon. Using what you already have is cost effective and smart.

Affordable face paint that stays throughout the night!

Thrifting can be helpful in many different ways, but one way is that there are affordable Halloween costumes there. For example, if you want to be a Witch for Halloween, and you have everything except a hat and broom, you can easily find that at your local thrift store. A regular Halloween wig is at least $20. A Goodwill wig is about $10. Do you see the difference?

DIY costumes (do it yourself) are another way to not spend a lot of money on Halloween costumes. If you want to be Mario and Luigi for Halloween and you don’t want to spend a lot of money, I have the perfect DIY costume for you. For Mario, put on a red long sleeve, a red hat, and some overalls you can find in your usual closet! For Luigi, put on a green long sleeve, a green hat, and overalls. Lastly, if you don’t want to spend $5 on a mustache, you can put on some mascara or eyeliner and it will look just like a mustache!

If you have no idea what to be for Halloween I have another costume idea for you. It only requires 3 items! First, put on a black long sleeve, and some black leggings. Then, gather 3 different colors of sticky notes and stick them on the long sleeve. Make them look like the game “Tetris”. It is a fast and easy costume that takes about 5 minutes.

It’s always fun to dress up for Halloween when you are wearing an affordable costume. After you’re done trick or treating, you don’t have to worry about how much money you spent because you don’t need to! One day, I hope for a change in cost with Halloween costumes.
