The Freshman Football team lost their second home football game on Thursday, September 18 at 4:30 pm against Warren. Before the game, they mentally prepared to not let the pressure of losses on past games affect them.
The freshman team is divided into two teams, A and B, and they previously hadn’t scored during the season. However, A team scored six points and B team scored twelve points this game.
Head coach Sean O’Connell has always taught his players to grow in confidence, embrace failure, and never say the words “I can’t, ” and he continues to do so especially during this tough period.
“This season has definitely had a toll on the team,” Davion Lewis, a freshman on the B team, said. “The team has been able to come together a lot more, but the mood at practices has gotten a bit intense from the beginning of the season.”

The team is confident in their skills. They believe they can turn things around, and they trust each other to be capable of doing their job and make it on that score board.
“Breaking this series of losses will definitely bring back some confidence to the team,” Lewis said. “We need to be confident in ourselves and learn from our mistakes and not just give up and not think we aren’t good enough.”
The game against Warren High School ended up being a competitive one. The boys were able to work through the challenges and both teams were able to make it on that score board, though they didn’t win.
“Our mental state was nervous of the outcome but confident of our skills,” Lewis said. “We need to work hard and really need to believe that we can do good and play hard because they won’t just hand us the win. We need to work for it.”
