A trick or treat surprise event for ALE students will be held on Friday, October 29th during passing periods. Some ALE students are not able to celebrate halloween festivities so Rebekah Hazelwood wants to help bring Halloween to them.

“ Some of our students aren’t able to trick or treat or be a part of Halloween festivities for many reasons so if we can bring it to them, why not?” Hazelwood said. “It will be so much fun and it allows them to see and meet new people.” ALE stands for Alternative Learning environment, which is just a different learning environment to help support special education students.

“We all try to organize different events on campus. Part of my curriculum is campus & community based so our goal is to be as involved on campus as I can,” Hazelwood said. This is their first year they have organized a halloween event but decided to after Teacher Dusty Rogers suggested it last year.

“This many teachers volunteering has already completely exceeded any thought or expectation I had! I would have been happy if we had even 1 teacher volunteer,” Hazelwood said. Over 50 teachers and staff have volunteered while some staff have volunteered to do more things, Garcia’s class is making Halloween bags for the students and Evelyn Villaboos is getting cotton candy for them.

“Seeing the number of volunteers and seeing how excited and invoked the volunteers are getting with it. It just makes my heart so happy,” Hazelwood said. Any volunteers are welcome even if you don’t have candy, even being out in the hallway to show support for the students’ surprise.
