10 Things You Didn’t Know About Our Principal (May 6, 2021)

Dr. Baker has been the principal of Comm Arts since 2016. Besides being the best principal ever, she is an interesting person that you might not know much about. In honor of Principal’s Appreciation Day this past Saturday, here are some interesting facts about our very own Dr. Baker.

1. She is a huge animal lover!


Her favorite animal is a squirrel, she has a German Shepherd named Bear and about half a dozen fish. 

2. She is a mother of three!!!


Her oldest son, D, graduated from O’Connor and UTSA, and he now works in law enforcement. Marisela graduated from O’Connor and Texas State with a communications degree. Russell graduated from Taft and is a junior at Texas Lutheran University where he plays basketball.

3. She and her husband were high school sweethearts.

Dr. Baker’s high school prom night; the theme was “Arabian nights.”

4. She is very devoted to her Catholic faith.

5. She loves to run 5K’s with her family.

6. She lived in Alaska for two years.

“It is freezing – even during the summer,” Baker said.

7. When she was a teenager she painted her room purple because she was in love with Prince, but her room is blue now.

8. She is a first generation student and the only one in her family to earn a doctorate.


“My Ph.D. is in Educational Leadership with an emphasis in Social Justice, she said.  “My study was about the lack of latinas at the high school principalship.  I wrote a 200+ page book about the matter.”

9. She loves to cruise.


She’s been to Mexico ten times, or as she likes to call it her “motherland,” and to the Bahamas five times.                                                                     She really wants to go to Jamaica next!

10. Finally… Dr. Baker was an accountant before she was a teacher!
