STAFF OPINION
One of the things that absolutely sucks is talking about why you are sad when others ask. The “are you okay?” provokes a river of tears, because it’s not okay and it hurts. How are you supposed to hold it all together when you feel as if your whole world is slowly falling apart in a blink of an eye? Yet, one thing we can learn is that you have to come to terms that NOT being okay is okay. Seeking comfort from your friends is not a sign of weakness, but of strength.
Why strength? Because you realize that you’re not okay and the love and company from others can bring a comfort that you seek. Being held by someone you trust while you cry makes you feel that even when you are in your lowest point, you can ease the pain.
We can feel like this all sucks, and not know how long it will take for it to heal, but from now on, there will be bad and good days till you feel like you are okay again. Time does heal all wounds, now how much time will it take? That is completely up to you. Or maybe you feel as if you’ll never be okay, but trust me – you will find a way to live with it and somehow the weight will become lighter. In the end, whatever you are going through will be a life lesson/experience that will make you stronger – emotionally and mentally. After all, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.
Hiding your feelings is not strength, acknowledging them and working through them is. Ignoring them will not help you move on, the only way to move on is to let yourself feel and heal. It doesn’t matter how you do it, whether it is listening to a sad playlist, sad movies, talking to someone you trust, etc. The faster you let yourself feel, the faster you can move into acceptance and heal. In the end, you have to remember that YOU WILL BE FINE. You will get through this, you are stronger than you think, and this mishap or bump will become a thing of the past.
Tough times never last, but tough people do.
