CAST Editor reflects on her freshman year

When I think of the start of my freshman year I can’t put into words how great it has been. Compared to my eighth-grade year, I was ready for a change and to get away from kids who I have been with since first grade. I knew I needed a change, so I applied to the CAST Teach magnet school.

Being in a magnet school has benefitted me so much. CAST Teach has been so welcoming. As the school year goes by, I am so lucky knowing I got to experience being a teacher’s assistant twice as a freshman. I know deep down that CAST Teach is the right place for me. Since I am part of the first class of CAST Teach High School, it has been new to all of us students and faculty, but we all have adjusted and are ready for sophomore year. I feel like this school year could not get any better.

One thing that I never thought was going to happen is that high school is not at all how it looks in movies or how you imagine reading books. In high school everything is up to you; teachers don’t push you to do anything. High school is literally what you make it.

Since I had so many elective choices, I wanted to try something new so I joined the newspaper. I didn’t think I was much of a people person, so I didn’t want to do dance or band. Journalism has been an important part of my freshman year. I have learned my way around the school from finding teachers and students to interviewing people for my articles. Journalism gave me the opportunity to branch out of my shell and meet new people.

I will forever love how my freshmen year turned out and cherish the memories I made this school year. I hope my sophomore year will be just as amazing.
