Art Club and Henna Club hosted their first collaboration Wednesday April 5. It all started with an email between the two clubs where they saw an opportunity to gather more members and experience other cultures for both of them.
“There are so many different types of art and so many types of cultures that it just makes sense to collaborate,” Art Club Vice President Taleen Najar said.
The art club intends to collaborate with more clubs in the future to learn new things and help promote new clubs.
“There’s however many different countries and that just gives you the opportunity to get to know other people,” Art teacher Elyssa Holland said.
Ramadan, the ninth month of the Muslim year, starts on the evening of March 22 and ends on the evening of April 21. The henna club meets every Wednesday after school, the president is Bethlehem Abadi.
“This is our tradition, like for you guys Christmas is important for us henna is important,” Dewa Ahmadzai said.
At the end of Ramadan it is tradition that Muslims apply henna to their hands, nails, and feet.
“I think we need to spread and teach people our culture because they need to know it in order not to judge,” Muska Wali said.
Leslie Uresti is the sponsor for the Henna Club. Her main reason for being the sponsor is because she knows how much her students love to do henna and that it’s important to celebrate culture.
“It helps create tolerance and it helps to prevent prejudice,” Uresti said.

Henna club members practice henna designs on art club members at the combined meeting on Wednesday April 5.
