A Falcon will become a Goshen College Black Squirrel next year, now that senior Leila Andrade Alvarado has signed to attend college in Goshen, Indiana and accept a scholarship to play soccer.

All she has to pay for is books.

“I’m very nervous about moving to Indiana, but I’m very excited,” Alvarado said. “I mean it’s all bittersweet. I’m gonna miss everyone here. I’m such a family person.”

She has been playing soccer since she was 3 years old and has always wanted to play college soccer. If given the chance, she said she would also consider a role in professional soccer.

“It’s my escape from my problems and stuff,” she said. “So every time I’m playing, it’s so much happiness. I just have a lot of love for it. It’s going to be hard, but I’m ready for this new experience.”

She has played the right wing position all four years of her high school soccer career, all of it on varsity.

“I’ll either be playing attacking mid or I’ll be playing like center mid, but I’m exited for any position I’ll be playing,” she said.

Leila said she has loved the teammates and other people she met as part of the team, but wished the win column had more numbers in it. The team went 1-16 in district this past season.
